The ENVIS Centre has
been assigned the responsibility for serving as the
focal point for information on NGOs related to sustainable
development across the country. Over the past years,
users both within and outside the country have come
to recognize the Centre as a reliable and responsive
source of environment-related information on NGOs. The
Centre is currently compiling and updating information
related to key NGOs in the country which promote sustainable
development activities.
Over 2000 NGOs are listed in the Centre’s
database on environmental NGOs. This database includes
NGOs working on environment, nature protection and sustainable
development in various parts of the country. This is
the country’s largest compendium of information
on Indian NGOs working in the fields of environment,
sustainable development and nature conservation. The
last published edition of the directory of Environmental
NGOs in the country (2004) carried nearly 2018 entries
with their contact numbers, histories, missions, and
activities. The Directory remains a source of easy and
reliable information for voluntary groups, government
agencies, reference libraries, researchers, aid agencies,
the media, and educational institutions. |
