National Workshop on performance evaluation of ENVIS Centre Activities based on their performance |

A National Workshop on the above topic was organized by the Ministry of Environment and Forests on 5-6th April 2010 at State Council for Science & Technology, Gangtok, Sikkim, to evaluate the activities of ENVIS Centres and decide their continuance based on their performance. All the ENVIS Centres in the country set up by Ministry of Environment and Forests was invited to make the presentation of their activities in the workshop for the larger dissemination and also evaluation by the MoEF.
The workshop was inaugurated by Shri B.P. Dhungel, Hon’ble Minister, Tourism Dept, and Forest Environment & Wildlife Management Department. The other dignitaries who addressed the gathering during the inaugural session are Secretary, Science & Technology & Climate change, Govt. of Sikkim & Dr. Nilakanth Ghosh, Statistical adviser, MoEF.

The undersigned was nominated to participate in the deliberations of the above workshop and also to make presentation of the activities initiated by the ENVIS Centre at WWF-India. Accordingly, the presentation was made on 6th April 2010.
In the forenoon highlighting the activities like database development; website development and its linkages & periodic publications of ENVIS Centre which was well appreciated by the audience as well as the expert members of the evaluation committee headed by Dr. Nilakath Ghosh. A copy of the presentation is enclosed herewith for ready reference.
While appreciating the presentation on ENVIS Centre’s activities, the following suggestions were given by the evaluation committee for further improvement:
- Need to organize the layout and the dynamic content of the website for its wider acceptability to the professionals
- To create the soft copy of all the publications; Newsletter etc. and upload the same on the website for its larger dissemination.
- There should be more focus on the statistical and analytical reports of the “Parliament and the Environment” subject.
- NGOs database shall also be uploaded on the website for its easy accessibility to the professionals, agencies as well as to other ENVIS centers.
- The website shall also be audited by the certified auditor of the NIC for the security purposes.
- To avoid duplicity of efforts and towards gaining more productive outcome, regular interaction amongst ENVIS Centres shall be there.
- Reduce paper based publications promote e-publication of newsletters and bulletins; it would be more environment friendly.
The recommendations and suggestions were made by the evaluation committee at the valedictory session.
